Daddy time

It used to be that Howard travelled on business for Novell once a month or more. I missed him lots when he was gone, but the kids didn’t. If he wasn’t on trips, he was busy. The liked him, but having him gone just didn’t make much difference in their daily routines.

Today Howard left for a trip to a convention. Thus far this evening Gleek has tantrumed because she wanted her daddy home for a hug, Patches asked where daddy was, and Link climbed into my lap asking when his daddy would be home and responded to the question “why do you want to know?” with the answer: “Because I like him.”

Our home is a much better place than it used to be.

Of course I realize it took you ten years to get to a point where you could commit to Schlock and still have a nice big house with a nice big backyard to keep living in. Still, that kind of family time is the direction Fabian and I want to move someday.

  2. You are in a good position right now to plan for such a future. You just have to decide that “Daddy working from home someday” is more important than an expensive lifestyle now. I’ll grant that we’ve had some amazing windfalls, but we also did some careful planning. We did not increase our style of living with each pay increase. Instead we used the extra money to add to our savings and to pay off debts faster. Fabian is smart & capable, I’m sure that he’ll be getting fairly regular raises, planning ahead can put you in a nice house with Daddy working at home.
