The day after

Today is our recovery day. Howard and I are both in need of a day of rest. Howard needs it even more than I do because the book release party was half relaxation for me and Howard had to work hard through the whole thing. All the advance preparation and stress was worth it. Once we got our hands on the books everything went smoother than we had any right to hope.

I cannot say enough to express my appreciation for the people who showed up to help. In three days of working, not once were we short handed. We always had more people wanting to help than there was work to do. Not only did people show up to help, but they showed up with good cheer and made the whole experience a joyful one. Howard and I came away completely exhausted, but very very happy. I’m actually looking forward to mailing out the next book so we can do it all again. Only next time we’ll try to make sure we have books enough in advance so that Howard can spread out his work and spend more time relaxing and playing.

Today we rest. Tomorrow we finish the odds and ends of mailing. Then we start gearing up for Conduit next weekend. I’m looking forward to Conduit. The kids will all be at my brother’s house, so it will be just Howard and I for three days. Howard will still be working, and so will I, but we should be able to find a little bit of time for having fun as well.

Life is good.

  1. Congratulations! You deserve more than one day of rest, both you and Howard, i can imagine how much you are looking forward to next weekend.

i can’t wait to see the book! Hopefully it will arrive at my partners in DC before he comes up next weekend so we can look at it together 🙂

Thanks for all your and Howard’s hard work!

  3. “I wanna go to Conduit, too! All the cool kids are going!”

Do you happen to know how much it is if I just wanted to go for Saturday evening? I might be able to convince my husband that a family of pirates belongs at ConDuit (pirates is about the only thing my husband would dress up for. Thus why he’s Cap. Jas. T. Hook) – But I’d have to whip up toddler and infant versions too…

  5. Website only has the weekend rate. Pooie. But I’d imagine just an evening for 2 adults and 2 babies ought not be too expensive…

    *crosses her fingers*

We’re “supposedly” throwing a BBQ that Saturday, but all the couples we invited have not called us to let us know if they’re coming – Maybe I should suggest to my husband that we cancel, and instead of buying meat, buy ConDuit tickets!

PS: My sister in law is going to be in their costume thingy (the big show on the stage) – I think it was either last year or the year before that she won, and her costume this year is cool enough that she’s got a good chance of winning again. If you see a gargoyle, that’s her. She’s also going to be on a few of the fantasy art and costuming panels – so she’s been begging me to come and help support her. If you see a girl named Sarah with medium length brown hair, that’s her – she’s awesome.
